About Me!Welcome to my 8th Grade Class Website. I'm very excited to be teaching my 10th year of 8th Grade this 2023-2024 school year at Cumberland Middle School. My love for education took me into the Social Science field in 2003 at Eastern Illinois University. I graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science: Secondary History Education. I earned my Middle School Endorsement from EIU in 2010. I'm currently working on my Masters of Curriculum and Instruction. I was hired by Cumberland Unit #77 in January 2010 as an RtI Interventionist. In August 2010 I moved into a Title I Aide position working with a variety of students in grades K-8. My extra school job is creating the elementary and middle school yearbook. I'm busy throughout the year capturing memories and being a true historian. I have also tutored after school and through the summers for 15 years. I am married and have two boys, Cole 21 and Cade 16. I keep busy tutoring students after school and on weekends. My very favorite thing to do is spend time with family, travel with friends, and go to concerts. I started the Pirate Travel Club for the Middle School 7th- on up in 2018 with our first trip to Washington DC. Check out my link above for more information on Summer 2024 trip to Washington DC and New York.
If you actually took the time to read that I genuinely thank you! Missie Briggs |

8th Grade Supply List
A serious THANK YOU! goes out to all of my parents who buy their student's school supplies each year! Without these supplies it would be hard for us to do our jobs! We love you for this as we find ourselves spending a lot of money each year on other things that are needed in the classroom like curriculum resources, motivational posters/inviting decorations, and software to keep your student engaged.
At the end of the school year it is important to talk with your student about what they have left over and can be used for the next year to come. Many items like rulers, calculators, flash drives, and headphones can be used for many years. I will talk a lot with your student about taking care of their property and mine so that things last for a long time. If you prefer I hold on to certain items so that your student doesn't misplace them just send me an e-mail and I will bag them up with their name on it. Thanks again to my parents for all you do to help your student rise above and become successful! This "education" thing is a team effort and it really does take the whole community to help a child be their best! Mrs. Briggs Amazon.com Classroom Wish List! We appreciate any and all donations. Please remember to bring these items the first week of school: - I ask for mechanical pencils because wooden ones are high maintenance. They are sharp for a couple sentences and then your student is up sharpening them again and again. Mechanical pencils are environmental friendly, we can refill them, and then there is no getting up to sharpen them.
